SoftSub Privacy Policy

SoftSub is a browser extension that finds, synchronises, translates and displays subtitles
for video playing in your browser. This policy describes exactly what leaves your computer, and
what does not.
We do not sell your data, show advertising, or run any analytics or tracking of any
kind. There is no account to create and we never ask for your name.
Who we are
SoftSub is developed and operated by Synced Media Solutions, which is the data
controller for the little that is described below. "We" in this policy means Synced Media Solutions.
What never leaves your device
- Video. No frame, image or recording of anything you watch is ever
transmitted. The optional face-recognition feature analyses frames entirely on your own
machine, and the face signatures it computes are stored locally in your browser and sent
nowhere.
- Audio. Automatic synchronisation listens to the video's audio to measure
where speech begins. That analysis runs in your browser; no audio and no recording is
uploaded.
- Your browsing history. The extension does not request the browser
permission that would let it read your history or your list of open tabs.
- Local subtitle files you open yourself.
What is sent, and to whom

What we store
On our server, for subscribers only: the installation identifier, the email address Stripe
reports for the payment, Stripe's customer and subscription identifiers, your plan status and
renewal date, a licence key so you can move your subscription to a new computer, and a monthly
count of translated characters for quota purposes. Nothing else. If you never subscribe, the
only record is that installation identifier and its trial dates.
In your own browser: your settings, the subtitles and timing offsets you have used, and any
face signatures computed locally. Clearing the extension's data removes all of it.
Your choices
- Live translation, automatic subtitle search, and the Cast info panel can each be switched
off in the extension's settings. Cast info and face recognition are off by
default and each needs turning on deliberately.
- Cancel a subscription at any time through the billing portal linked from your Stripe
receipt.
- To have server-side records associated with your installation deleted, email the address
below with your licence key.
Children
SoftSub is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information
from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date above changes and the new version is
published here before the change takes effect in the extension.
